Keep your dog busy while kids are at school
8 September 2020 — Miscellaneous | Dogs
Going from having the kids around to play with all day to a quiet house can be a little challenging for some pets. A lonely, bored dog will find a way to occupy their time and this can mean being destructive to your furniture or other objects around the house. Here are some tricks and toy suggestions to keep your furriend busy.
Helping your dog feel relaxed
The key is to create a special zone for your dog with some of their favorite safe toys, a comfortable bed and maybe a shirt with your smell. Something with your scent can help your dog feel a bit more secure and reduce their anxiety.
Shutting the blinds or curtains can reduce barking triggers. Leaving on a fan or a dehumidifier can also help cover up other noises, which can help reduce agitation.
Another good distraction is that you can leave the radio or the tv on with music or shows that your kids are used to watching.
For people who love technology, a pet cam can be fun. It lets you watch and communicate with your dog by camera, and it’s also a 2-way audio!
Toys for a lonely dog
Kong toys are great, you can fill them with wet food and for a challenge, put it in the freezer.
There are a lot of puzzle toys and IQ testers on the market that can keep your dog busy during the day. If you feel handy, you can build your own. You can also hide some treats around the house.
Don’t forget that a tired dog is a good dog. Make sure you walk your dog in the morning and at night, after school or work. If you don’t have time for a walk, a game of fetch can be a good exercise.
