5 reasons to cuddle with your pet

3 November 2020 — Miscellaneous

Whether it’s rainy, cloudy or cold, fall is the perfect season for cuddling. Did you know cuddles are good for pets, but it is also scientifically proven to be good for us too? Here are 5 reasons why we should take a break from our daily routine to cuddle with our furry friend.

Improved Overall Health

When you pet your cat or your dog while looking them in the eyes, oxytocin (the love hormone) is released. This hormone helps slow down the production of cortisol, known as the stress hormone, and which can lead to various health problems. Furthermore, petting your furry friend helps lower your heart rate and blood pressure.

Helps Your Pet Feel Secure

Your dog is a pack animal, and most pack animals like to create emotional bonds with others. Even though cats are more independent, they will ask to be petted when they feel like it.

Relieves Anxiety and Depression

We often worry we’re not giving enough attention to our furriends. Taking the time to forge bonds with our pets can improve our mental health. Hugging them calms us and helps us appreciate the present moment.

Detect Your Pet’s Potential Health Problems

When you pet your furry friend regularly, you may be able to detect lumps, sensible areas or bad odours.

Best Way to Start and Finish the Day

When you pet your furriend in the morning, it puts you in a positive state of mind and can help you face the coming day. Furthermore, when you pet them before falling asleep, it can help you relax and forget about your day.

Don’t forget that it’s not all cats and dogs that like cuddles. Always keep an eye on their body language and respect their needs. Some pets would rather be playing or walking with you.
