Does Your Pet Have a Life on Social Media?June 1, 2016
In 2016 we can all agree that, collectively, we spend more time on social media than ever before. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter – on all of these platforms we consume photos, videos and information about our family and friends, celebrities we like and brands that interest us. As much as we like to learn more about the people we know and love, it’s a wonderful surprise when a pet pops up in our social feed.
Do you share photos and videos of your pet on social media? Awesome – you’re putting a smile on many faces. Haven’t tried it yet? You should! Not only is it fun for you, your followers will enjoy seeing your pet too! We’ve compiled some examples below of pets that are totally killing it on social media – and owners who are actually profiting off of their pet’s popularity! Learn how to get in on this trend, or improve on what you’re doing, from the pets below.
Jiff is easily the cutest dog we have ever seen in our entire lives. Skeptical? Take a quick look at his Instagram profile.
Jiff became super famous after appearing in the music video for Katy Perry’s song Dark Horse. He has 2.3 million followers on Instagram. He’s represented by United Talent Agency in Beverly Hills (yes, you read that correctly). This Quartz writer, citing the fact that Hillary Clinton once wrote an op-ed for Quartz, could not reach Jiff’s management for a quote. When it comes to dogs, Jiff is Beyoncé-level famous.
Marnie was adopted from a shelter in her golden years – she’s now a 13-year-old Shih Tzu with over 1.9 million followers on Instagram. With an extra long tongue, cloudy left eye, and head tilt (the result of a brief illness called Vestibular Syndrome), Marnie’s signature look has captured the internet’s heart, and ours. Marnie’s owner likes to dress her up in truly adorable outfits and take photos of her being the best rescue dog ever, all over New York City.
Toast is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy-mill rescue dog. Her life is so glamorous she did a sunglasses campaign for Karen Walker. Her owner is Instagram star Josh Ostrovsky (@thefatjewish) who has clearly succeeded in leveraging his puppy’s profile the same way he has succeeded in leveraging his own. There’s even a book about Toast coming out soon that you can pre-order here.
